The Arena Football League

Posted on: July 27, 2008 9:20 pm
Edited on: July 28, 2008 11:40 pm

Today, July 27th, 2008, the Philadelphia Soul celebrated their first championship in franchise history and the first major sports title in Philadelphia since 1983. Even though 75% of Philadelphians won't treat this like a major championship, it is. The Arena Football League is a league of its own, not a minor league for the NFL. The league has expanded a lot since 1996 when Commishoner David Baker took over. David Baker resigned this past week however. Under his leadership, the league has expanded to 22 teams and has been taken under TV contract by NBC (not any more) and most recently ESPN, ESPN 2 and ABC. The league will continue to expand and gain popularity as the years go by. In fact, there are rumors that the next team to enter the league will be from the steel city of Pittsburgh.

The league is hard hitting, high scoring, famous owners. ( Jon Bon Jovi, Mike Ditka, John Elway, Jerry Jones etc.) And tickets are relativly cheap. So come out and support the AFL.

The Arena Football League

not a minor league for the NFL.

You're correct it's a league full of players that were not good enough to make it in the NFL!

Philadelphia Soul celebrated their first championship....won't treat this like a major championship

That's because it's not. No one cares about the AFL. People do go, but that's because like you said it's cheap. cheaper then going to an NFL game.

The Arena Football League

oh, people care... you wouldn't believe how quickly little ol' grand rapids became covered in rampage red and black come playoff time.  and the constant talk in the local media before each game.  and how much we hate all things chicago, especially the rush (cheap shots, poor loosers, etc).  don't say people care... 'cause we do.
